About Us

Based the Parish of West Heath which is tucked away in the south west corner of Birmingham we are aptly named the South Birmingham Radio Society. The society was formed in the 1960's & ever since the very first meeting the club has been lucky enough to have a membership that enjoys all areas of Amateur Radio. Whether it's HF, VHF, UHF, or SHF,  voice or CW contest operation or just a nattter to other fellow Amateurs over the air.  Between our members we cover all  areas of radio, though there is a tendency for more VHF/UHF work. So more HF operators are required!

We try to do 'our bit' for the community as well with many special event stations over the years for local Guide and Scout groups as well as fetes and carnivals. At present the club has approximately 45-50 members, not all of which are licensed

We are active in a number of contest during the year full details can be found on our contest page by following the link on the left. As well as contests we enjoy in number of social outings for evening meals at local pubs near our contest sites to scenic evening cruises along the Severn valley railway which runs between Kidderminster in Worcestershire & Bridgnorth in Shropshire.

We meet on Monday and Friday and on the first Wednesday of every month we have our monthly meeting night which usually consist of a lecture or a trip out. These are not always radio related we have had many very interesting non-radio talks with subjects ranging from canals to the county air ambulance as well as speakers from more recognised radio-related organisations such as Electronics & Radio dealers as well as visits to outside venues that range from the RAC control centre to the BBC television studios

The club operates under the call signs G3OHM and G8OHM we also have a 9cm’s Beacon on 3400.900MHz and a 6cm beacon on 5760MHz that transmit under the call sign GB3OHM. Further information on the beacons can be found on our beacons page which is accessible via the link on the left.
